The guest from the day before yesterday came back to my kitchen with her boyfriend today !
As he really loves sweet red bean jam, we made dorayaki - bean jam pancakes and green tea cookies.
Making sweets was fun as always but I especially enjoyed chatting with them. We talked about funny Japanese inventions she found as she travels. One of many weird things is a juice maker in a shape of orange, called Mikan-kun or Mr.Orange. You flip his head up, put orange, press button and orange juice comes from his nose ! Better than puking but still "Yack !!!!!"
She also told me that everything in Japan has a face. Face on a sponges to do dishes, face on mugs, face on spatulas... I wasn't really aware of the fact as these faces blend in our daily life so naturally but she is so correct ! We do have faces on pretty much everything ! Japanese people really like to personify things. You'll see for yourself when you are in Japan ;)
Thank you so much for joining 2 classes ! It's a secret between you two and me that the dorayaki in the movie were only a few photogenic ones and all the rest were either banana shape or triangle..... shhhhhh !
Please do send me some pictures when you made teddy bento or giant dorayaki.
